Dricus du Plessis

Dricus has surprised a lot of MMA fans with his ascent to the title. Despite having an awkward fighting style, he’s now 22-2 in his professional career, with his only losses coming outside the UFC. He submitted Adesanya with a rear naked choke in his first title defence and has won 3 bonuses in his last 5 fights. His finish rate in the UFC is also very good, with just 2 decision wins out of 8.

Sean Strickland

Strickland shocked fight fans when he knocked Adesanya down and won an impressive unanimous decision to win the middleweight title. However, the 29-6 fighter then lost his belt to Dricus in his next fight. Although he’s not known for an exciting style, Strickland has also won 3 bonuses in his last 5 fights. His last time stepping into the cage saw him beat Paulo Costa by split decision.

Zhang Weili

Weili has been a force in the strawweight division, initially winning the belt from Jessica Andrade back in 2019. Although she lost 2 fights to Namajunas, she’s now earned the belt back and defended it twice. Her professional MMA record is 25-3, and she’s 9-2 in the UFC. Weili has also won 4 performance of the night bonuses, often finishing her opponents in exciting fashion.

Tatiana Suarez

Tatiana Suarez initially entered the UFC in 2016, and she’s still currently undefeated. However, she’s only fought 6 times since her debut. Tatiana secured a submission victory and performance of the night bonus in her last two fights, and her overall record is now 10-0. However, her career has been unfortunately hampered by injuries. If she can stay healthy, her wrestling presents a real threat to anyone in the division.

This is a rematch of UFC 297’s main event, where Dricus du Plessis won a narrow split decision victory to take the championship belt. It was a very close fight, but Dricus was judged to have been more effective. Dricus will look to utilise his strength and power advantage, and he’s currently the MMA odds favourite.

Strickland may have been unlucky not to win their first fight, but he’ll need to improve if he wants to win the middleweight title rematch. He should work to ensure he’s pushing the action as much as possible and avoid the grappling exchanges when possible.

  • Zhang Weili vs Tatiana Suarez

Zhang aims to become one of the most dominant champions in UFC women’s strawweight history. She dethroned the previous queen, Joanna Jędrzejczyk, and has now amassed a total of three title defences. Her losses to Rose Namajunas have shown her vulnerabilities, but she’s looked stronger than ever in recent fights.

Suarez was once considered the future of the women’s strawweight division, but injuries have really prevented her from taking off. Still, she’s been dominant in her run through the division. Despite this, she’s still the betting underdog as she faces her toughest challenge yet.
